In this VFX training you will learn to achieve a VFX plan A to Z, step by step. You will learn starting from a simple video, create and integrate a robot convincingly. This training is provided by Matthew and Gabriel Pujol Grapperon, and consist of two distinct parts: the first and the second oriented 3d Fx

This tutorial has been designed to be both followed by a novice user a more advanced user . This is especially a great exercise for people who know the basics of after effects , wishing to engage in more technical achievements. All required attachments to the delivery of this training are provided . Some plugins are also used, but a second approach does not require systematically explained.
 

Workflow this VFX tutorial

    Modeling in 3ds Max : In this first great chapter we begin with a quick discovery of the 3ds Max interface and we will see how to optimize its interface. Then we will start modeling the shell of the robot. This modeling will be an opportunity to discover many tricks ( Trubo Smooth or Smooting Group, the Loop Tools to make a round hole , make a quick cable, modeling agencies , soft selection , copy objects with mass Arrays. .. )

    Labor textures in Mudbox : This second chapter , you will discover the Mudbox software that allow us to texturing the robot. After a quick discovery of the interface , we will see how to use brushes and stencils texturers shell and see how small details add bump . After a color adjustment we will see how to export layers.

    Application materials and textures with 3ds Max and VRay we see in this chapter settings VRay shaders (diffuse , reflection, refraction ect ... ) and an introduction to linear workflow, the implementation of a HDRI lighting, the creation and assignment of several materials (painted metal, brushed metal, LED ...), we finally see how to use MAXScript to edit several materials simultaneously. We will also see how to create a HDRI in the field. We will see how to create panoramas 3 PTgui . This will then allow us to merge them in Photoshop to get a picture . HDR

    Rigging in 3ds Max : In this chapter, we will see how our robot Rigger to animate .

    3D tracking with Boujou : We use tracking software to do our Boujou motion tracking in 3D space . We will see the automatic tracking , cleaning and correcting the tracking and see how the tune . We will work on the concepts of Solve Camera , Optical distortion and correction. We will place markers in the scene and see how to export the final solve .

    Animation in 3ds Max : Back in 3ds Max to animate our robot . We discuss the animation curve in 3ds Max, the RetimeTools tool , we will import our tracking done in Boujou , then we animate our robot and it will apply a gait cycle .

    Passes rendered in 3ds Max , we 'll see how to get out all the render passes you will need in your final compositing : beauty , shadow , volumetric light, fx .

    FX and compositing with After Effects : the final step : assembly us our elements. We will use After Effects. We will see how to import all our passes made ​​, we will make a little rotoscoping with Mocha , we will use some stockshots to decorate our stage and do a colorimetric correction.

The source files used in this tutorial are provided VFX . The software used for this course are: Boujou 5 PTgui ; 3ds Max 2014 After Effects CS6, Photoshop. Some plugins are used, but alternative methods are proposed (Re- vision RSMB Pro, Magic Bullet Colorista II , Magic Bullet Looks, Video Copilot Action Essential 2 ) .
